Trashing The Trash
Trashing The Trash
WHAT’S TRASH.
Generally speaking, trash refers to any material deemed unwanted or unnecessary and we are usually inclined to toss it in the bin and forget about it. This is something the average person does excluding hoarders or collectors off course. In tandem with this hypothesis, I also was inclined to act accordingly to the norm today, I tossed the trash. But the story just began.
MY STORY.
A couple of weeks ago, I placed an online order for a fancy item and was so excited on receipt of a notification that my order was ready for pickup today. On arrival at the depot and after the usual protocol, I was handed my item which to me was too elaborately packaged relative to the item’s actual dimensions. After several conceited efforts, I eventually hit bull’s eye. Giving it a cursory appraisal, I placed it safely in my pocket along with the voucher and tossed the trash comprising the elaborate packaging afore mentioned.
On arriving home where the privacy of my room afforded me the opportunity of inspecting my item with more finesse and shameless childlikeness, I realized I had ordered the wrong size specification. I was aghast. With stupendous alacrity, I was back at the station to retrieve the trash I was not so long ago too eager to toss all so that I could validly process a return application under the provisions of the sales policy.
I only managed to spare fleeting and ridiculous dry chuckles as I frantically rummaged through the bin at the pickup station. I stayed stoic, struggling not to be embarrassed because this time, the joke was on me. The whole incident left me thinking shortly afterwards and I couldn’t help drumming out some of my thoughts on the keyboard of my aged computer.
NOT ALL RUBBISH IS TRASH.
One really should not be in desperate haste to throw stuff away. In our day-to-day, there are several fractions of our life we are inclined to quickly toss in the incinerator because of their unpleasant nature. However, not all rubbish is trash.
On so many occasions, other people toss their trash unto us through offensive attitudes or transferred aggression. If we afford the patience to closely examine this trash, they could better guide our reaction process.
RUN DIAGNOSTICS.
Many tossed trash give a good diagnostic of the status of a person’s health, emotionally, spiritually and otherwise. Some people despite misleading physical appearance are plain frustrated. Others are running on dangerously low love deficits. A kind word, a soft answer, an extra slice of patience could salvage the situation, stall an inferno or tremendously reduce the volume of secondary trash that could have been generated by our hasty reaction.
RECYCLE.
Furthermore, more often than not, the rubbish we encounter on a daily basis usually has some recyclable value. Be it delay, disappointment, errors or accidents, we may yet learn a lot, immune ourselves from future occurrences or prevent them altogether if we painstakingly pick up the lessons within.
BLESSING DISGUISED.
Lastly, some trash are blessings in disguise deliberately thrown our path by the universe to enrich our lives if we are sensitive and patient enough to know that the crude forms of many jewels have a rather undesirable initial appearance. With the requisite effort, they sparkle without.
TOSS IT.
In conclusion, although trash is meant to be trashed, wisdom suggests that there should be a minimal hurry to do so. A little more patience, closer scrutiny and a small added effort may make some trash count. But if after all this, the trash remains trash, by all means toss it. Extra baggage just slows everyone down. Cheers.
